How To Protect Your Windows XP PC By Password ?

To password-protect your Windows XP PC you have to follow the below steps:

  • First click on Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. Now click on the name of the account you want to protect by password. Now click on Create a password. Make sure that you assign a password to the Asministration account, which controls all the critical settings of your computer.

  • Always enter a secure password, make sure that your password have uppercase and lowercase letters, numericals and symbols and use at least 8 characters. In the below type password hint, such as ” What is your date of birth?”, this will help you to recover it when you forget your password.

  • Now if you want your PC prompt you for password when computer resumes from standby than open Power Options in Control Panel and Click on the Advanced tab and check the box next to ‘prompt for password when computer resumes from standby’.

  • Now to password-protect your screen saver, open Display in Control Panel and click on the Screen Saver tab and check the box next to ‘On resume, password protect’ and click OK.

  • If you like to make your folder private, right click on it and select Sharing and Security, now under the Sharing tab, click on the radio button next to Do not share this folder or Make this folder private and click OK.
  • Windows XP Professional users can encrypt files and folders for added security. Now to encrypt a folder, right click on it and select Properties and click Advanced and check the box next to ‘Encrypt contents to secure data’.
